“Tauna works to bring new ideas to her district and has written thousands of dollars worth of grants to help her school. These grants helped buy science equipment, funded science field trips for her students, and funded iPads and other technology for all elementary classrooms. Her latest grant had elementary students engineer a rinsing/recycling station for the school lunchroom.” – PAEMST Website

“Donna’s focus is to engage students in enriching, meaningful learning experiences. Her students learn mathematics, science, and engineering skills through rocketry, forest research, and activities that involve the entire community.”– PAEMST Website

The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science teaching is awarded annually to outstanding K-12 teachers across the nation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Palouse Cares food drive, auctions bring in record success

MOSCOW—On Saturday, December 7th, hundreds of volunteers came together in every community on the Palouse to gather in more than 38,000 pounds of food for area food banks.

The food-drive also has a fund-raising aspect to it, live and silent auctions which totaled a record $35,000. A live auction took place at noon at the Eastside Marketplace in Moscow as well as Zeppoz and Mr. Z’s Casino in Pullman. The silent auction in Colfax single-handedly raised nearly $1,300.

The one day food drive requires lots of volunteer effort from organization to collecting the food door-to-door. Food collections took place in: Moscow, Pullman, Colfax, Palouse, Potlatch, Genesee, Garfield, Colton/Uniontown, Troy, Deary and Bovill as well as Kendrick and Juliaetta.

Members of the community and local businesses made the auctions possible by donating hundreds of auction items. Members of the community also volunteered to go door-to-door in and those at home prepared with a non-perishable donation when a Palouse Cares volunteer knocked on the door.

Since 2006, Palouse Cares has donated nearly 200,000 pounds of food and $178,000 to local community food banks and non-profit organizations serving the Palouse.  This is the drive’s first year expanding into Colton/Uniontown and Johnson as well as Garfield, Troy, Deary, Bovill, Kendrick and Juliaetta.
